Maintenance & Warranty

This section brings together all the tips for maintaining your gold and silver jewelry over time.

Also discover the services offered by the workshop, such as resizing, repair or polishing, to restore their brilliance, adapt them to your morphology or extend their lifespan.

Finally, you will find all the information regarding their warranty.

General advice:

  • Protect your jewelry: Avoid contact with chemicals (perfume, household products, pool chlorine) and excessive heat.

  • Remove your jewelry before sports activities, prolonged baths, or any contact with chlorinated water.

  • Clean regularly with a soft chamois or microfiber cloth.

  • Store them properly: Each piece of jewelry in its pouch or a jewelry box to prevent scratches.

Watch out for skin acidity:

Even if you weren't aware, the skin's natural acidity can sometimes cause jewelry, especially silver, to tarnish from the very first uses. This phenomenon varies from person to person and does not depend on the quality of the jewelry or the purity of the metal alloy. (To learn more, consult this blog post).

However, you can:

  • Opt for professional rhodium plating from a jeweler, at a cost of approximately €60 or more, depending on the jewelry and the workshop chosen.

(It is normal that Luda Bijoux cannot be held responsible, as this phenomenon is natural and in no way calls into question the quality or the work performed.)

Tips for restoring the shine to your silver jewelry:

Baking soda & aluminum bath

To revive your silver jewelry (without stones):

Materials :

  • A bowl
  • An aluminum foil sheet
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • Very hot water (not boiling)

Instructions :

  • Line the bottom of the bowl with aluminum foil, shiny side up, so that it covers the entire surface.
  • Place the jewelry in the bowl.
  • Sprinkle with baking soda.
  • Pour in the hot water.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes: a chemical reaction will cause the oxidation to transfer to the aluminum.
  • Rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Avoid jewelry with precious or semi-precious stones. Amber and malachite, for example, are damaged by this treatment.

No aluminum?
No problem! Here's a simple method:

  • Soak your jewelry for 30 minutes in lemon juice (or white vinegar / citric acid) to prepare for cleaning.

  • Gently brush with a soft brush and a little baking soda or baking powder. This will make your jewelry shine without damaging it.

  • Rinse with lukewarm water and dry thoroughly.

  • In all cases, proceed with caution: brushing can cause small scratches, so always use a soft and flexible brush.

  • For heavily oxidized jewelry, soda crystals are more powerful, but remember to wear gloves to protect your hands.
If oxidation persists, a gentle wash with Marseille soap can complete the cleaning.

And if, despite all this, your jewelry remains dull, I offer a cleaning and polishing service.

Brass Jewelry Care

⚠️ General Precautions

  • Always clean gently, with a soft cloth.
  • Dry immediately after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

🧼 Recommended Method with Mild Soap:

This is the safest and most commonly used solution by jewelers.

  1. Mix lukewarm water with a mild soap (Marseille soap or neutral liquid soap).
  2. Soak a soft cloth or chamois and gently clean your jewelry.
  3. Rinse with clear water to remove all traces of soap.
  4. Dry thoroughly with a clean cloth.

🧴 Occasional Cleaning with Mirror:

Mirror is a household polish that removes oxidation and revives the shine of brass. It should be used with caution and occasionally, especially on gold-plated jewelry.

How to use it:

  1. Apply a small amount of Mirror to a soft cloth.
  2. Rub the jewelry very lightly, just enough to even out the surface and remove traces of oxidation.
  3. Wipe off any residue with a clean cloth.
  4. Dry thoroughly.

⚠️ To be used rarely: this method is especially useful if the jewelry becomes dull over time.

Generally, jewelry needs to be maintained over time.

For long-lasting brilliance:

Entrust your jewelry to a jeweler. Depending on the metal, its finish, and your needs, various interventions can be carried out, including:

  • Mirror polishing, to restore your jewelry's full brilliance.

  • Rhodium plating, particularly recommended for white gold (grey) and sterling silver. Rhodium plating is a surface treatment that involves depositing a thin layer of rhodium, a precious metal from the platinum family, onto the jewelry. This layer helps to revive its brilliance, achieve a white and luminous finish, while improving its resistance to scratches, oxidation, and wear. Over time, this layer naturally fades and can be renewed to restore the jewelry's full brilliance.

  • Repairs, restorations, or maintenance care, carried out while respecting the original finish of your jewelry and adapted to its condition.
