Necklaces: What style depending on the length?
The length of your necklace greatly influences its visual effect. Here are some guidelines to help you:
40 cm – Choker: The pendant falls at the hollow of the base of the neck. This length highlights small pendants and solitaires.
42 cm – Just below the hollow: The pendant sits slightly below the base of the neck. Ideal size for those who want a little more ease.
45 cm – Mid-bust: The pendant sits in the center of the upper bust. Suitable for pendants of all sizes.
50 cm – Above the chest: The pendant stops just before the chest. Length suitable for layering with varying heights.
60 cm – Center of the chest: The pendant falls at the level of the middle of the chest, creating a more pronounced vertical line.
70, 80, 90 and 110 cm – Opera/Lariat: These lengths allow for single or doubled wear. The drape evokes the elegant lines of the 1930s and visually lengthens the silhouette.
Measuring your neck circumference:
Using a tape measure, measure your neck circumference horizontally, at the hollow, keeping a straight posture.
For a reliable measurement, the tape should be snug, with neither excessive tension nor looseness.
- Use a flexible tape measure, such as those used in sewing.
- Place the tape horizontally around the base of your neck, at the hollow. Stand up straight and relaxed.
- Adjust without tightening: the tape should be in contact with your skin, but without compressing it.
- Note the measurement in centimeters.
- Add 1 to 2 cm for ease of fit, depending on desired comfort, so that the necklace is not too tight.
- Round up to the nearest whole number if necessary to choose your final size.
Practical example:
- Neck circumference measured: 38 cm
- Adding ease of fit: 38 + 1.5 = 39.5 cm
- Rounding: 40 cm → Your neck circumference size is therefore 40 cm.
Take the value obtained and add 1.5 cm for ease of fit to determine your neck circumference.
If your measurement has decimals, always round up to the nearest whole number.
